CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

Pre-School Movement Class

Our pre-school classes are open to children 2.5 to 4 years of age and is a great foundation to begin an interest in dance. They are designed to put in place all of the key skills required to dance at a later age.

Our classes are often based around songs that the children already know and feel comfortable with. This will help to develop their confidence and help them to feel secure. There are also many other skills that a child will gain from taking the Pre-school movement class:

  • Building listening skills, and the ability to follow instructions.
  • Enhancing their fitness and general movement skills such as balance and co-ordination.
  • Self esteem and confidence building
  • Spacial awareness
  • Social skills

This is a a fun class, with no pressures involved. We require all children to be fully potty trained before participating in this class.

Ballet/Tap/Modern Jazz Combination Classes

BALLET

The study of Ballet focuses on posture, balance, discipline, grace, self-confidence, stamina and flexibility. Knowledge of basic Ballet is extremely important for all other styles of dance and serves as the backbone of all dance training. We recommend that you take Ballet alongside any other dance style. In this class students will start to learn the disciplines and basics of Ballet. The class will be based around the IDTA Ballet syllabus and there will be options to do exams further down the line, though this will not be compulsory. IDTA exams are governement recognised exams, and will go towards UCAS points if a child decides to go to University.

TAP

Tap is a form of dance whereby the dancer uses tap shoes as their own percussive instrument. Tap teaches students rhythm, co-ordination and timing. Students are taught to link basic steps and rhythms in this class. This class is based around the IDTA Tap syllabus, and there will be options to do exams further down the line, though this will not be compulsory. IDTA exams are governement recognised exams, and will go towards UCAS points if a child decides to go to University.

MODERN JAZZ

Modern Jazz is a fun high-energy style, covering a broad range of varying rhythms and dance styles. Classes are structured to prepare the physical strength and flexibility required for any dance style. This class is based around the IDTA Modern Jazz syllabus, and there will be options to do exams further down the line, though this will not be compulsory. IDTA exams are governement recognised exams, and will go towards UCAS points if a child decides to go to University.

Freestyle & Street Classes

FREESTYLE/STREET

Freestyle is a modern and expressive style of dance. It is a very popular style and involves lots of spins, leaps and kicks, as well as combining the fast modern movements and hand actions of the street dance style. Freestyle requires a dancer to be flexible (as do all other styles), so in this class we will spend part of the class working on our conditioning and flexibilty as well as working on our high energy routines.
